The $500 Wedding Planner | North Carolina Wedding Planner

I’m getting real today, friends. I feel that I need to put this information out into the universe not just for myself but to inform all you sweet brides and lovely MOBs on the truth.  I hope that you soak up my thoughts and consider them heavily.

Professional wedding planners cost more than $1,500 and coordinators cost more than $500.  Truthfully, a reputable coordinator will be in the $1,500-$3,500 range and a high quality planner will be anywhere from $3,500 to $10,000 (or more!). And yes, there are absolutely some out there that charge $500. To be perfectly honest and transparent, I did… at first.  In my first few months in business back in 2009, I charged between $500 and $750 for coordination service and was happy as a clam.  Then I quickly realized I have to pay my taxes, marketing costs, office supplies, gas, time, knowledge, rent, continuing education, cell phone bill, my website/email/blog, staffing, and the list goes on.  I simply could not support myself with 20 weddings a year at $500 a pop.  That’s only $10,000 a year.  Minus all those things I listed before and I would be living in a box eating PB & Js.  Not realistic folks.  I made more than that waiting tables in college.

But it’s not about the dough.  I think it’s all about perception.  Caterers give you food–you can taste it, see it, smell it.  Photographers give you images–you get to relive your day through them and share with family and friends.  Wedding planning and coordinating services are just that–a service, an experience. I can’t take my vendor knowledge, design eye, and mad time line making skills and put them in a box. I wish I could but I just simply can’t.  Instead, I give you relaxation on the day of your wedding because I’m styling all of your gorgeous details. I give you great photos because I do everything in my power to set your photographer up for success.  I give you a tasty, hot dinner because my time line is spot on and your caterer can serve your guests’ meals on time.  I want you, your family, your friends, and your vendors to have the absolute best experience possible because it’s my job and my passion.

Just know that in the wedding industry, you almost always get what you pay for.  There is an exception to every rule of course and I’m sure there is a planner out there that is awesome, just starting out, and charging peanuts.. just like I did.  But know this, any professional planner and coordinator is worth their weight in gold.  We are worth more than $500.  We do our jobs not to make a bunch of money.  Trust me, if I was in this business to make a lot of money, I would be driving a brand new BMW instead of my Honda.  We do this job because we have passion for hospitality. We enjoy making people happy.  We simply love love.

I share this information with you today not to spark a great uprising (although I appreciate all respectful opinions and comments!) or sound like a snooty, fancy pants wedding planner.  I work just as hard for a $50,000 event as a $150,000 event.  And I charge the same pricing structure for all my clients.  I share this with you so you’ll think about the value of your vendors and not just their dollar signs.  We’re people just like you, trying to keep a roof over our head and do what we love.

Real Wedding at Revolution Mill Studio {Amanda + Justin} | Greensboro NC Wedding Coordinator

There is no greater compliment than when a fellow wedding planner says, “You’re hired!”  I was so happy to be working with my dear friend, Amanda, and her now husband, Justin, on their September wedding.  Amanda has amazing taste and I was beyond excited to style her day for her.  I loved all of her fun, fresh ideas and her bright color palette.  Big hugs to Cari of Carisa Chee Photography for capturing every last moment and detail.  Enjoy and leave Amanda and Justin some love!

Victory Junction Christmas Gala | North Carolina Event Designer

I was so honored to play a part in the event design for the Victory Junction Christmas Gala in December. I had so much fun bringing our “Visions of Sugarplums” event to life and collaborating with the talented ladies at The Sugar Shack. This is a family and children focused event and our lively color palette and designs reflect that!

The gala is an annual holiday event for campers, their families, friends of the camp, and sponsors to mingle, eat, participate in an auction, and enjoy a live performance. The auction featured everything from amazing vacations to autographed guitars and lots of NASCAR gear. The King even joined us for the party and donated one of his famous hats for the auction. The main event of course was one of my favorite country artists, Kellie Pickler. She was kind enough to perform for everyone and I can’t say enough amazing things about her. She was so humble, thoughtful, and downright hilarious. She signed countless autographs in between songs and even got up to go greet the soldiers from Toys for Tots before singing one of her latest hits. I’m so glad I was there to see her perform and mighty proud that she’s a North Carolina girl!

So, without further ado, grab a cup of eggnog and a peppermint candy cane and enjoy these gorgeous images from Anna Paschal Photography!

How dreamy are those luminaries? I will say, assembling and placing all 500 of those luminaries was such a huge project but totally worth it when the driveway lit up at night.

Real Wedding at Adaumont Farm {Susan + Ben – Part 3} | Greensboro NC Wedding Planner

You may remember me declaring that I have a love affair with Susan and Ben’s wedding.  We had the perfect balance of rustic touches, elegance, and the comfort of home.  We incorporated books into the style (Susan is an English teacher) so the guests found their way to their seats by way of a card catalog.  We planned on incorporating books into the centerpieces and so they didn’t just look any other vintage book wedding, I threw in some country/horse themed bookends.  They really pulled the whole look together.  Guests spent the evening sharing a family style meal, cutting up in the photo booth (the LPW ladies and I even took a quick turn), snacking on homemade cookies, and throwing down one serious dance party.  Susan and Ben were sent off in style at the end of the evening with checkered flag ribbon wands (a nod to Ben’s job in NASCAR).    If you want another look at their day, check out my behind the scenes video of the day from the AMAZING Iron Kite Films.

Leave Ben and Susan some love y’all!

Real Wedding at Adaumont Farm {Susan + Ben – Part 2} | Greensboro NC Wedding Planner

Ben and Susan’s ceremony was one of my favorites of all time.  Susan and her ‘maids came rolling over a hill towards the ceremony site in a vintage pick up truck.  You could hear every last guest gasp with surprise and some of the farm’s resident horses galloped beside the truck as it drove down the fence line. It was like out of a country fairy tale.  After the ceremony and while the bride and groom took some photos, guests enjoyed Southern favorites like country ham biscuits and fried pickles tray passed in vintage wooden Pepsi crates. Everyone sipped lavender lemonade and mingled on the porch in the (thankfully!) mild June weather. More to come with their fabulous reception details tomorrow! P.S. Here’s Part 1 in case you missed it!

Real Wedding at Adaumont Farm {Susan + Ben – Part 1} | Greensboro NC Wedding Planner

I have a serious love affair with this wedding.  So much so that I’ve decided to split it up into three blog posts.  There is just too much gorgeousness  from Liz Grogan Photography.. I couldn’t help myself!  Ben and Susan were a blast to work with and so easy going.  Susan gets the “Super Bride” award. She was always organized, decisive, thoughtful on the things that mattered, and flexible on the things that weren’t at the top of the priority list.  This first post is all about the amazing bouquets, groomsmen skipping rocks in the water (swooooooooooon), and Susan and Ben’s first look. I love that you can just feel Ben’s nervous excitement and Susan’s relaxed happiness through Liz’s images.  Enjoy and leave them some love!
