Wedding Planner Turned Bride {Leigh + Bryan’s Wedding} | Greensboro NC Wedding Planner

This may be my favorite blog post ever.. it’s not everyday that you get to share *your own* wedding on your wedding blog! Style Me Pretty was so kind to feature it last week (see that post here) and I’ve finnnnnnnally narrowed down my favorite images to share with y’all. I’ve shared some of my favorite details and moments along the way but before we get into the pretty, I wanted to say one more thank you to our amazing vendors that made our day so special. Anna, Carla, Karina, Gabby, Stacy, Stacy, Mario, ShannonShannon, and Carol, Bryan and I can’t thank you enough!

After tossing around some ideas about destination weddings, my high school sweetheart, Bryan, and I decided on a local wedding with a small guest list of only 65 of our closest family and friends. We chose the Weir-Jordan House in downtown Greensboro for our venue and set the date for October 22, two days after our 14 year dating anniversary.

Simmons-17 Simmons-34 Simmons-31

We loved everything about the Weir-Jordan from it’s Southern antebellum feel to it’s rich history (it is one of the oldest houses in Greensboro). It checked every box for us — an outdoor ceremony space, a spot for a tent, and an amazing in-house caterer.

Simmons-41 Simmons-79

Some of my favorite fashionable details were my pearl necklace (that I still wear regularly!) and my shoes. My two favorite movies are Steel Magnolias and Father of the Bride. My mom, sister, sister-in-law, and best friend hosted a Steel Magnolias themed bridal shower for me, complete with red velvet armadillo cupcakes! As an homage to Father of the Bride, I was on a mission to find some cool sneakers and fell in love with these lace high tops from Anthropologie.

Funny enough, Bryan is the one that brought up the idea of a first look! In all my sharing about my work, he must have picked up a thing or two. There is an upstairs, private, Charleston-esque porch at our venue that was an ideal location for a first look. Although we decided not to give each other wedding gifts, I surprised Bryan during our first look with my dad’s gold cuff links. He passed away a few years ago and I thought it would be the perfect way to have him there in spirit. After our first look, we hopped in the car for photos at a favorite local spot, The Proximity Hotel. We really enjoyed having some alone time together before the craziness set it. We highly recommend it!

Simmons-149 Simmons-159   3 Simmons-205

Next step – select our bridal party! We ultimately decided not to have a large party — all of my girlfriends are married with children or pregnant so I wanted to make the day as relaxed and enjoyable for them as possible. We all got ready together and it was SO much fun. Surprisingly, my best friend from high school went into labor in the middle of the night before the wedding and obviously had to miss the wedding. I took my wedding dress and crashed her newborn session a few weeks later so we could have pictures together! My sister was my maid of honor and looked beautiful in her Jenny Yoo gown .. the fabric and layers of her dress tied in with mine perfectly. My mom’s gorgeous navy dress and sapphire earrings added just the amount of sparkle we needed! Doesn’t she look fabulous? Bryan’s best man, in true Southern fashion, was his father. They looked so dapper in their black tuxedos!

Simmons-247

Our sweet flower girls are two of our favorite people in the whole wide world. They looked like little princesses in their tulle and satin dresses complete with flower halos!

Simmons-256 4

Our ceremony was absolutely perfect and by far, my favorite part of the day. I loved our music selections: an instrumental version of Rivers and Roads by The Head and The Heart for our parents and wedding party and an instrumental version of Amarillo by Morning by George Strait, my dad’s favorite song. We had two special readings. A scripture reading by one of our very best friends as well as poem read by Bryan’s sister. We walked back down the aisle to a mash up of Ants Marching and Ode to Joy.

Simmons-389 Simmons-381 Simmons-462

After the ceremony, we sent our guests inside to warm up and for cocktail hour and dinner. Stacy with Savory Street Catering created an amazing custom menu for us! Some of the highlights were pulled pork and collard egg rolls with mango chutney, crab hush puppies with Cajun aioli, butternut squash ravioli, beef tenderloin with white cheddar grit cakes, and mini tomato pies.

Simmons-479 Simmons-481

For our design, we kept everything elegant, timeless, and classic. Our florist, the Farmer’s Wife, has always been our family florist so it was a no brainer to work with Stacy on our wedding. She is truly like family and created floral magic for us! Maxie B’s made my wedding cake dreams come true with our stunning cake (and Bryan’s dream come true with a layer of Devil’s food cake!). One of my only major must haves was a clear top tent with big chandeliers and a black and white dance floor that I could twirl on. Mission accomplished!!

5

After dinner, we danced the night away! Our first dance was “You & Me” by Dave Matthews Band. We have been to countless DMB concerts so it was only fitting that we danced to Dave. The chorus is also perfect for a few twirls!

Simmons-540

Later in the evening while cake was served, we offered a few more desserts. Bryan has a serious sweet tooth and is, hands down, the biggest Pepsi addict you will ever meet. We offered ice cream float shooters along with cake.. three kinds: Pepsi, Sundrop, and Cheerwine. So good!!

Simmons-686

We ended the night with a glowing sparkler exit and hopped in a London taxi cab headed for O. Henry Hotel. It was the perfect day and we couldn’t be more grateful for the experience!

Grandover Resort Wedding {Hannah + Kyle} | Greensboro NC Wedding Planner

When Hannah described her dream wedding, words like classic, natural, elegant, Southern, and festive came to mind. Looking back on her beautiful May wedding to Kyle, I’d say we hit the nail on the head! From the refreshing color palette of raisin, dusty lilac, and gold to the lush and natural florals to the custom chuppah by Just Priceless, all of the design elements were simply stunning. But more importantly than the details, it was a heartfelt day that was truly reflective of Hannah, Kyle, and their families. I hope you enjoy these images from Justin Cook as much as I adored working with the new Mr. and Mrs. Spinrad!

A little rain can’t keep these two down and I have to say, you would never know this was our Plan B, would you? Thank you to Sami from Just Priceless for making our vision for this chuppah come to life. It was even more beautiful in person! I cannot tell you how much I enjoyed witnessing this wedding ceremony. You could just feel the joy and happiness between Hannah, Kyle, their parents, and guests radiating throughout the room.

Spring Salisbury Train Depot Wedding {Sara + Alex} | Charlotte NC Wedding Planner

Sara and Alex are one of those couples that you just can’t help but have fun when you are around them. I know Anna Paschal Photography and I agree — they are easily one of our all time favorite couples (and weddings!). They are both easy going, but know what they like which made wedding planning a breeze. I have been itching to share their beautiful day for several months — but how do you narrow down the images when every.single.one. is amazing? I just can’t hold this beauty of a day to myself anymore … I am so excited to share Sara and Alex’s classic and colorful Salisbury wedding with you!

kate spade garden wedding in salisbury by greensboro wedding planner leigh pearce events salisbury-nc-wedding-planner-1 charlotte-nc-wedding-planner-4

Sara and Alex tied the knot on the most perfect, sunny May afternoon surrounded by family and friends in the church that Sara’s great grandfather helped build. We kept the design at the church clean and classic with fun preppy touches to tie into our overall look. Green Bee Floral Designs created the most beautiful mixed green garlands to adorn the church!

charlotte-nc-wedding-planner-2 charlotte-nc-wedding-planner-3

I simply adore the color palette we created for Sara and Alex. We gave the typical blush and bashful inspiration a punch of personality and ended up with a palette of peony, blush, peach, and metallic gold with black and white stripes for a Kate Spade touch.

charlotte-nc-wedding-planner-5

Such a great way to bring a pop of personality to a classic tuxedo — colorful socks!

salisbury-nc-wedding-planner-3 charlotte-nc-wedding-planner-6

There are two sanctuaries at Sara’s home church — a modern one that can accommodate the large attendance of today’s congregation as well as the original that Sara’s great-grandfather helped build. When she showed me both spaces, I just *knew* this was the spot for their nuptials.

charlotte-nc-wedding-planner-7

My favorite portrait of the day! Sara, Alex, and their wedding party took the Salisbury Trolley from the ceremony to the reception. It was a great time in the day to enjoy their friends before getting swept up in the reception.

salisbury-nc-wedding-planner-7

The Salisbury Train Depot was a new venue for the LPE team to work in. The verdict? We LOVED it!! It is such a unique space in that it is still an actual working train depot. While a train doesn’t stop during the event, one or two are likely to pass by while guests mingle outside for cocktail hour. To keep guests cool while they socialized, Buttercup Cafe + Catering served up libations as well as refreshing cucumber mint infused water. Hors d’oeuvres of watermelon and feta skewers, fried green tomato crostini, and buttermilk biscuits with Virginia ham and apricot chutney where tray passed. With a pretty blank slate for the cocktail hour space, we wanted to bring in some personality and I think these fun striped linens did the trick!

greensboro-nc-wedding-planner-4

Jen Brannon of Green Bee Floral Designs is my hero. I wanted a living wall-inspired piece for the seating chart and boy, did she deliver! It was hands down my favorite element from my design.

greensboro-nc-wedding-planner-9 greensboro-nc-wedding-planner-11

These colorful tablescapes were so fun to design! We started with an overall classic look, added some pops of color inspired by our color palette, and lastly some touches of personality like the striped ribbon napkin ties and the gold striped votives.

Can we all just take a moment to ooohhh and ahhhhh over Sara’s wedding gown? It has easily become one of my all time favorites.

greensboro-nc-wedding-planner-1 greensboro-nc-wedding-planner-3 greensboro-nc-wedding-planner-2

Sara and Alex kicked off the reception with a sweet first dance to “Take The World” by Johnnyswim. It was the perfect song for them!  After dinner, DJ Joe Bunn kept the dance floor rockin’ with a mix of the couple’s favorite tunes. Speaking of dinner, guests enjoyed shrimp and grits, arugala and baby spinanch salad with sugared pecans, strawberries, and mandarin oranges, apricot dijon grilled chicken, and herb roasted beef tenderloin with rosemary au jus.. just to name a few!

Maxie B’s always exceeds my expectations .. but this cake .. oh my word! It was absolutely beautiful. They took my rough sketch along with the duogram from Sara and Alex’s wedding invitations and created this masterpiece. And of course, it was delicious too! The layers were pink lemonade, raspberry lady (one of my favs!), and devil’s food cake.

Highland Presbyterian Church + Forsyth Country Club Wedding | Winston-Salem NC Wedding Planner

This wedding has everything that makes my wedding planner heart go pitter patter: a wonderful and fun couple, blush and bashful details as far as the eye can see, and fantastic vendor team. It was one of those weddings and planning experiences that I wish I could relive over and over again — and I actually get to! This time with Lauren’s sister, Taylor; and so far, it is shaping up to be just as amazing!

Thinking back to earlier this year on the most perfect May day, Lauren and Thomas tied the knot with 200 of their closest family and friends at Lauren’s home church. Later they danced the night away at the Forsyth Country Club and it was one rockin’ party. I am so excited to finally share this beautiful day and some of my favorite details thanks to Samantha Laffoon’s talent. Enjoy!

These Badgley Mischka’s are the perfect bridal shoe — not too white, a touch of texture, a bit of bling, and jussstttt the right height.

10 25

Hands down, these bouquets are my all time favorite! I even included some of these photos on my own wedding inspiration board. Jen of Green Bee Floral Design is brillant and added just the right amount of pink to the bridesmaid bouquets while only giving Lauren her requested “whisper of pink.”

Highland Presbyterian never disappoints! Just look at all that architectual detail.

After the ceremony, guests moseyed over to the reception for hors d’ouerves and cocktails on the terrace of Forsyth Country Club. We tented this area in case of inclement weather (which we had during the ceremony!) as well as the bright May sunshine.

Charlie Band kicked off the reception with some favorite oldies tunes and the party officially started. From there, guests dined and danced all evening! The food station menu offered a variety of selections from a vegetarian display of balsamic grilled vegetables and hummus to primavera pasta and shrimp and grits to crab cake and pulled pork sliders with shoe string french fries. The showstopper of the menu was definitely the beautiful four tier wedding cake from Delicious Bakery.

Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church + Revolution Mill Studios Wedding | Greensboro NC Wedding Planner

I absolutely loved planning with Chelsey and Bill for their July 2016 wedding for so many reasons. From their mustard yellow and grey color palette to their trusting in my vision and recommendations, it was an effortless process and resulted in the party of a lifetime. This group knew how to par-tayyy and I think the snaps from my friend, Vesic Photography, attest to that!

greensboro north carolina wedding planner at revolution mill studios wedding

The ladies started the day downtown at their hotel getting dolled up with Carla White + team before heading to the church for a traditional 2 PM Catholic ceremony at Our Lady of Grace. One of my favorite churches in Greensboro, hands down!

cobb-326 cobb-364

Chelsey and Bill decided to do a first look prior to their ceremony and read letters from one another. So sweet!

cobb-114 cobb-135

Our Lady of Grace is stunning on it’s own so we went minimal with decor in the church. We brought a pop of personality with the ceremony programs, tying them back to the design of the invites from Smitten On Paper.

cobb-145 cobb-232

Because the ceremony was a tad earlier in the day, we planned for a break between the wedding and the reception. Guests were invited to our favorite local spot, 1618 Midtown (formerly known as 1618 Wine Lounge) for drinks and a reprieve from the heat. After the ceremony, the bridal party hopped on a party bus and headed to Fisher Park for some photos before heading to the reception.

cobb-359 cobb-325 cobb-360

When I think of a hot summer day, I think about Chelsey and Bill’s wedding day. It was bordering on 100 degrees with sweltering humidity. You know, just your typical North Carolina July day! To keep guests comfortable, we created lots of shade for cocktail hour, installed multiple high powered fans, and kept ice cold drinks flowing. Of course, anyone that was uncomfortable was welcome to come on inside but most guests were enjoying the NC sunshine and fun! For their guest book, Bill built a custom Jenga set. Guests were able to sign the pieces and it provided some extra fun for cocktail hour.

cobb-399 cobb-417 cobb-406 cobb-409

Designing with this color palette was so refreshing! I partnered with Just Priceless to create a natural look that Chelsey loved for florals with our more modern color palette. April from Tender Love and Cakes created the most beautiful cake with a cascade of custom sugar flowers. It was even more lovely in person!

cobb-387 cobb-396 cobb-388

I am always trying to mix up floor plans for venues we work at frequently. No one wants the same ol’ same ol’ and I’ve been dying to do another dance floor down below at Rev Mill. Most weddings put their cake in this area, which isn’t my favorite use of the space. I had this vision of Hooman shooting through the lights and Chelsey and Bill looking up at their guests during their first dance .. and as you can see, I totally delivered on that vision!

cobb-485 cobb-556

Side note: if your photographer asks to steal you away during the reception, say yes!

cobb-713 cobb-745

Chelsey came to me during planning and said she had this idea for hula hoops during dancing. There is a funny story behind them between her, Bill, and some of their friends .. one of those “one time at the bar” stories that always lead to some laughs. The hoops were the perfect touch for dancing photos that Hooman always captures so well!

Hello, gorgeous! Talk about a snazzy get away car.

Congrats, Chelsey and Bill!! You two are the life of the party and I absolutely adore you both!

I Like Bigs Tents and I Cannot Lie | North Carolina Wedding Planner

It’s true. Tents are my jam. As we approach 2017 and wedding planning for next year is abuzz, here is some inspiration for your tented wedding. Pinterest away!!

north carolina wedding planner private property outdoor tented wedding tips

If you are planning to have your ceremony outdoors and don’t have a viable indoor back up plan, reserve a tent in advance in case of inclement weather. Also, it comes in handy to make sure all your design details will work well inside or out of a tent. I love this grand entrance we gave to Katherine and Nathan’s wedding tent – we created an outdoor church.

Hello gorgeous! Nothing will make your guests’ jaws drop like a beautiful Sperry pole tent. The signature high peaks and flags on these ionic sail cloth tents are my absolute favorite.

If you decide to go for a more traditional frame or structure tent, draping and chandeliers are the perfect accent to create a custom look.

Michael Moss | See more from M+E’s plantation wedding here

You may be thinking that you just need a tent in case of rain, but I recommend them rain or shine especially in the summer. They give your guests a reprieve from the sun and heat. You can install fans to help create a breeze or even side walls and an air conditioning unit. Your guests will thank you!

Think about your floor plan. Plan out your focal points and high traffic areas like stage, dance floor, food stations, bars, and the like to ensure proper flow. Don’t forget to think about your entry and exit points and making them well defined.

One of my favorite ways to customize a tent design is to lay down flooring. The options are endless (hardwood, carpeting, patterns, oh my!) and your female guests will appreciate their heels not getting stuck in the grass.

If your venue comes with a tent, make sure to get a complete list of all the amenities and rentals that are included or available for upgrade. Think fans, lighting, dance floors, side walls, tables, chairs, and the list goes on. Knowing what items the venue can provide to you vs. what you will need to secure on your own will save you time and money down the road .

Nothing transforms a tent more than fabulous lighting. Chandeliers, twinkle lights, cafe lights, lanterns.. your options are endless. For this wedding, my wonderful bride, Katherine, wanted to dance under the stars but because of her large guest list and the unpredictable weather, that wasn’t feasible. Instead, I proposed a clear top tent with twinkle lights to create a starry effect. It was absolutely stunning and even more impactful in person.

If your wedding is completely off the grid (no main buildings around to support your needs), don’t forget about additional tents you may need. This could be everything from ceremony to cocktail hour to dinner to dancing to kitchen to restrooms to storage to marquees.

Winmock at Kinderton Wedding {Anna + Jack} | Winston-Salem Wedding Planner

Almost a year ago, Anna and Jack tied the knot on a perfect summer day in Winston-Salem. I adore these two and planning with them and Anna’s mom, Mary, was so much fun. Their wedding was the perfect blend of classic elegance while keeping their florals and accents loose and natural to fit in with their upscale barn venue. And just WAIT until you see Anna’s wedding dress. It is hands down my favorite LPW bridal gown ever!

Thanks so much to Every Last Detail for featuring their big day this week! You can see it here {{link}} if you missed it.

30 11 4

Per usual, Amy Lynne Originals created the most perfect floral designs for Anna and her maids. The textured hand tied bouquets were a mix of peonies, garden roses, tuberroses, veronica, salal, and Italian ruskus.

2 6

I love the JOY between Anna and Jack during their first look in front of the church.

21 22 23

This is such a sweet moment between Anna and her maids. And, as always, expertly captured by Alexa.

8 9

Remember me saying how Anna’s dress is my favorite of all time? This photo is perfectly sums up why — the off the shoulder scalloped necklace, the lace bolero, the delicate buttons, and the piece de resistance: a wide sash tied into a perfect bow.

3 7

Now this is my kind of barn venue — elegant, true to its history, clean lines, and just the right amount of rustic. Winmock at Kinderton was the ideal backdrop for Anna and Jack’s reception!

10 17

Upon arrival guests enjoyed signature sips (a French 75 for her and a Whiskey Sour for him) and passed hors doeuvres on the terrace at Winmock. Guests sampled small bites of sweet potato biscuits with black forest ham and maple butter; gourmet nacho bites with grilled strip steak, black beans, and jalepenos; and, my personal favorite, Holly’s signature pimento cheese deviled eggs that are to die for.

24 26

After cocktails, guests found their way upstairs to their assigned tables for a family style feast. The dinner started a light salad of baby spinach, fresh strawberries, goat cheese, candied pecans, and a strawberry vinaigrette followed by a summer menu of grilled Tuscan chicken served with lemon buerre blanc, mushrooms, and fresh herbs; jumbo lump crab cakes with roasted red pepper rouille; three cheese baked macaroni and cheese that will change your life; heirloom tomatoes and fresh basil drizzled with olive oil and balsamic; and, of course, a platter filled to the brim with beautiful grilled summer vegetables. For my reception design, I kept with the feel of the venue and incorporated mahogany chairs and natural, organic floral designs (expertly designed by Amy!). Those elements paired beautiful with the elegant patterned satin linens, mercury glass votives, and silver rimmed china for a classic yet fresh look.

27 15 33

One of my favorite moments of any wedding day is the moment I get to share my reception design with my clients. We do not always have the opportunity because of photo schedules, but when I can squeeze it in, it is totally worth it. After months and months of planning, it is such a joy to see my clients enjoy their reception that was planned and designed especially for them. They get to admire the florals, touch their linens, smell their dinner wafting from the kitchen .. all the things that they may miss in the excitement of greeting their guests, eating dinner, and dancing to their amazing band. Seeing the expression on Jack and Anna’s faces when they walked in the doors truly made my day.

25 16 29 28

A beautifully designed cake and cake table is always high on my priority list. I feel that the photo of the bride and groom cutting their cake is so iconic and should be respected. My goal is to always create a display that perfectly sums up the wedding in one sweet (literally and figuratively) snap.
29 31

What is more classic than a bird seed toss exit? We tray passed tiny Love Birds envelopes filled with bird seed for guests to shower the newlyweds with. The perfect end to the perfect day for a truly wonderful couple!
